This is what the Toyota GT 86 sounds like with a TRD exhaust

One of the inevitable pleasures of owning a vehicle like the Subaru BRZ or Toyota GT 86 (better known as the Scion FR-S on this side of the globe), is the level of go-faster, look-faster and sound-faster parts served up by any number of willing companies. Whether its from a factory-backed performance group or another reputable company, bolting on a slew of goodies is one of the easiest ways to personalize your ride. Toyota Racing Development has evidently wasted no time in coming up with a few special components for the GT 86, including a free-flowing exhaust, fully adjustable suspension and a monoblock caliper kit. TRD recently slathered those parts onto a GT 86 in Japan and let a few lucky souls behind the wheel.

Fortunately for us, Carnifty was on hand with a camera to capture the vehicle in action. While the shaky-hand cam business indoors does little to convey how the coupe handles, the video does give us a good idea of what the 2.0-liter four-cylinder will sound like with an easy-breathing exhaust. Hit the jump to watch the video for yourself.

Next Toyota Avalon spied wearing its sleek new shape

2014 avalon photo

avalon rendering rearWe got our first glimpse at what the 2014 Toyota Avalon may look like thanks to a an artists rendering that appears to take some creative license. The teaser really only shows us that Toyota wasn't kidding when it said it was taking the Avalon upscale, with a dramatic, sloping roof line that conjures thoughts of the Audi A7.

The Avalon is only days from its world premiere on the big stage at the 2012 New York Auto Show, but we have some spy shots that tell us even more. The photos show us what we already knew; that the artist rendering isn't exactly representative of reality. But the pics also show that the sleek roof line and vastly reworked proportions are very real.

The Avalon prototype has enough protective cladding to give the Storm Chasers tank a run for its money, but we do see what looks like a very different front fascia, LED taillights and a pair of impressive chrome-tipped exhaust outlets. From the rear, we get a better sense of how the sedan will look, and it appears there may be some tape covering up the lines that would tell us if these prototypes are in fact hatchbacks.

Spy photos were also taken of the reworked interior, but the insides were also covered up beyond recognition. We are able to see an attractive leather steering wheel and completely reworked redundant controls. We can also see expensive-looking french stitching above the gauge cluster, as well as upscale gauges themselves.

Click on the gallery above to view the high-resolution spy photos of two different prototypes. Stay tuned to Autoblog for the official reveal pics of the 2014 Toyota Avalon.

The sales team at Hudson`s were friendly and helpful through out the whole buying process. If there was a problem I was informed immediately by phone and was explained what the problem was and how to fix it. They worked especally hard to make sure I received great customer care.

The Hudson Toyota Staff and Teri Aud were the most helpful

WE had checked on the I-Net for pricing and had visited dealerships statewide in Kentucky and several in Indianna, and decided to drive the 80 miles to Madisonville,Ky (the short-route) after emailing Ms. Aud about our wish to trade in our 2009 Chevy Malibu, that we had bought new in Owensboro,Ky , and were very disappointed in the Milage, (It was supposed to get 32 MPG/Hwy) and it had never got it,(25-26 HWY/ 20 City), we had took it back to dealership for checkouts and only had 25,000 on it at the time of trade! Hudson gave us the max ammount we had been offered and (above the blue/black-book estimates on the Malibu). We had tried to trade it back to the Owensboro, Ky Automall, and it was obvious that they were aware of customer disappointment and were not really interested in trading for a Chevy or Toyota unless we basically gave them the car and paid them the Max amount for trade!!! The Hudson Toyota Staff and Teri Aud were the most helpful,Friendliest, group of Auto-Dealers I had ever worked with in over 38 years!!!Even after the final deal was on the paper, there was not any pressure, they told us to go home over night, think about everything, come back-or call.(they invited us to ask questions)!!ON the way home we stopped at the Owensboro,Ky and Evansville,Ind. dealerships and let them make 1 more play!! They did not come close to our Trade-in price or the balance price that we were to give for the deal,(1 dealer was actually 4800 higher). Also the Dealer incentives at Hudson cannot be Beat!!! We should have came here 2 years ago before buying the Chevy!! We have already emailed family and friends and informed them where they should go 1st before wasting a lot of time!! Thank Everyone there at Hudson and Teri Aud, The whole group made it a pleasure to work with them!!

Subaru BRZ and Toyota GT 86 production gets underway [w/video]

Subaru BRZ and Toyota GT 86 production underway

Finally. It's the moment we've all been waiting for ever since Toyota and Subaru jointly announced their compact rear-wheel-drive sports car: production is now underway.

With an official ceremony at Subaru's Gunma Main Plant, attended by Toyota president Akio Toyoda, Subaru pushed the Big Red Button (quite literally, in case you were wondering) that sent BRZ and Toyota GT 86 coupes down the assembly line. And the event was captured in both still images and video for our viewing pleasure.

Check out our high-res image gallery above, and see below for the video and official press release. Oh, and if you're one of the lucky ones with a deposit down for either the Subaru or the Toyota's Scion FR-S twin (America won't get one with an interlocking rings badge), it's officially time to consider making room in your garage.

Toyota Prius C outsells monthly totals of Chevy Volt, Nissan Leaf in three days

2012 Toyota Prius C front three-quarter image

Toyota is pretty sure that its expanded Prius family will drive up sales of the world's best-selling hybrid, and the early sales returns indicate that the company is right, right, right.

After the Prius V sold about 8,400 units in the U.S. in the first ten weeks, the smaller, cheaper and more efficient 2012 Toyota Prius C is also getting a lot of attention. Toyota announced today that the C sold 1,201 units in just the first three days it was on sale. That's enough to make it "one of Toyota's fastest-selling vehicles," according to the automaker, which also pointed out that those three days of sales is more than either the Nissan Leaf or Chevrolet Volt sold all last month.

If anything, those 1,201 sales are not as impressive as the C managed in Japan (where it is badged 'Aqua') - Toyota obtained 120,000 orders in the first five days it was on sale, though it isn't immediately clear how many units have actually been sold. So far, the newly expanded Prius family has sold almost 10,000 units in the U.S. through the first half of March. This certainly points to the Prius franchise doing well in 2012. Last year in the U.S., Toyota sold 136,463 examples of its Prius Liftback (it sold 140,928 in 2010) and expects to sell 220,000 Prius models of all types here this year.

2012 Toyota Prius C configurator revs up

You can now build and price a little Toyota Prius C of your own, all of which can be done in a configurator that appears to have been designed by Max Headroom and Pixar. The latest and littlest memeber of the Prius family comes in four stock grades, conveniently numbered One, Two, Three and Four. To get the game started you'll need $19,710 in configurator money for the Prius C One - that's an $18,950 base price and $760 for destination charges.

Even the least of the four comes with options like Bluetooth and remote keyless entry, the only conspicuous base-model giveaway being the 15-inch steel wheels. Head for the Prius C Four, as we did, and you'll start at $23,990 and get all the trimmings. The single most substantive option at this height is a $1,150 set of premium, bladed alloy wheels to replace the standard alloys. They aren't even an option on the One. The other exterior and interior options are mainly cosmetic, like protective film and side moldings, or convenience, like an ashtray cup and a cargo tray. Checking every box will set you back $26,287.

It's pretty straightforward - for instance, there are nine exterior colors, one is black, then there are two variations on white, red and blue. But head on over to Toyota's site and see what you can make because after all, you can never run out of configurator money.

2012 Toyota Prius V

Form follows function, so it's easy to find one element of a vehicle that explains everything you need to know about it.

Look at the widened haunches of a 911 and you know there's serious hardware in the Porsche's rump. Check the elongated bed of an F-150 and its obvious the Ford should be roaming free on the ranch. Look at a Smart ForTwo... Actually, don't. It's for your own good.

So when I opened the door to the 2012 Toyota Prius V, a single feature stood out: the cupholder. Encircled in a chrome ring and mounted dead-center in the massive armrest, this lone receptacle was the defining feature of the interior. As it should be. The Prius is the commensurate commuter and the V variant's raised roof and enlarged hatch make it even more practical for Mommy and Daddy carpool duty. At least in theory.

Toyota Pro/Celebrity race will feature Rutledge Wood, Cain Velasquez

Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race

Toyota has assembled its talent roster for this year's Pro/Celebrity Race. Names from all corners of entertainment will go head to head against pro drivers in identically-prepared Scion tC racers during a 10-lap battle over a 1.97-mile course on the streets of Long Beach, California. 2012 marks the 36th running of the event, which will feature comedian and podcast personality Adam Carolla, Top Gear USA host and friend of Autoblog Rutledge Wood, and former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez. Pros like Frederic Aasbo and Bryan Clauson will also go fender to fender with the amateurs on track.

While we love to watch celebrities bash into each other, the real point of the event is to raise money for charity. Toyota donates $5,000 per entry to the winner's charity of choice, and kids from various children's hospitals all around the country get a chance to hang out with their favorite celebrities before the race kicks off on April 13. Check out the press release after the jump.

John and Summer 2011 Avalon - Congratulations on the purchase of your new car!

Thank you for a good experience from someone who is extremely busy.

I had a really good experience I am working a full time job and going to college part-time. I was able to go on the website and browse for what I wanted and price range. I did a quick credit application online. I was scheduled and appointment and was able to try out what I wanted without any persuasion from what I wanted. Everyone was curious and helpful. Thank you for a good experience from someone who is extremely busy.

Watch a restored 1980 Toyota Celica rally car put through its paces by Neal Bates

Former and current Toyota driver Neal Bates started his rally career over 20 years ago. While that seems like a long time to have been racing, even back then a 1980 Toyota Celica was pretty old school. Mr. Bates and his friends at Toyota set out to prove that the old Celica is still cool by giving the RA40 dirt runner a full restore ahead of its ARC debut in Melbourne.

Bates, Coral Taylor and the 32-year-old Celica took first in the opening round of the 2012 Australian Rally Championship, and if you watch the video below, you'll see why. Bates put the beefed-up Celica through its paces, and it looks like he hasn't lost a step.

Toyota dominates Consumer Reports annual Top Picks list

2011 Toyota Sienna

Two years after Consumer Reports smacked Toyota by pulling its coveted Recommended label from the Japanese automaker's vehicles in the wake of safety concerns, the venerable consumer products testing magazine has slipped back into its comfortable role of being one of Toyota's biggest fans. In announcing its annual Top Picks list, CR lauded five Toyota models as best-in-class, meaning the once beleaguered brand captured fully half of the category awards.

The five triumphant Toyota models included the Camry Hybrid (hybrid), RAV4 (small SUV), Sienna V6 (family hauler), Prius (green car), and Highlander (Family SUV). It is the first time since 2003 that a single automaker has scored five class awards. Honda, the last automaker to do so, did not land a single vehicle on the list for the second time in three years.

Other vehicles landing a spot on the list include the Ford Mustang (sporty car), Hyundai Sonata (affordable family sedan), Infiniti G (sports sedan), Subaru Impreza (small car), and Chevrolet Avalanche (pickup truck).

CR says it evaluates vehicles for their road test performance, as well as reliability and safety, requiring that winners rank at least near the top of their category on the organization's overall road test scores while having average or better reliability on reader surveys and performing "well" on crash tests.
